ULTIMO’S SAVVY BRIDE SURVIVAL GUIDE: 7 TOP WEDDING DAY TIPS
It may be the happiest day of your life but weddings can also turn out to be the most stressful too! Ultimo’s survival guide is here with our top tips on how to make sure your wedding day is stress-free and fun!
1. REMEMBER TO EAT BREAKFAST
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and this is especially so on your wedding day! There will be a lot happening on the morning of your wedding – many brides forget to eat or just avoid breakfast because of nerves. So make sure you have a light breakfast that will keep you going until that big wedding reception dinner! With all the commotion, it will help keep you energised and glowing – and may even help settle those pre-wedding butterflies! Let’s face it: no one wants a “hangry” bride! We recommend a light and yummy meal like a smoothie. It’s worth getting your bridesmaids to keep some light snacks on hand too just in case you get peckish throughout the day.
2. BREAK IN YOUR SHOES BEFOREHAND
This will be the most memorable walk of your life and you don’t want to be in pain going down the aisle, especially when all eyes will be on you. To break in your shoes quickly and easily, warm some socks up in the dryer (or even with a hairdryer), pop them on and totter about in your wedding shoes for an hour or so. The heat will help to break them in, so they’ll be ready to wear on the day – minus the blisters! It may also be worth investing in some heel stoppers to slip on your shoes to stop them sinking into the grass outside the venue, particularly if you plan on taking photos in areas with a tricky terrain. If heels really aren’t your thing, it’s a good idea to pack some ballet flats (or even flip flops if you have a long dress!) for the reception! It’ll make that first dance with your new husband much kinder on your tootsies!
3. PACK AN EMERGENCY KIT BAG
Although you hope there won’t be any emergencies on your wedding day, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Pack a toiletry bag with anything you may need and get a bridesmaid or your mum to keep it on hand. To get you started, make sure you include: plasters, lip balm, hair grips, deodorant, a mini sewing kit, tissues, wet wipes, cotton buds, mints, tailors chalk (to cover up any accidents and smudges on your dress) and cotton buds. Bonus top tip: hide some cotton buds in your bouquet if you can! You can use them to blot away any tears in the corner of your eyes if you start to well up during the ceremony!
If you’d rather not DIY your emergency bags, there are lots available to buy online! Either way you’ll have all the essentials you need to make sure your dream big day goes perfectly.
4. DELEGATE JOBS TO YOUR BRIDESMAIDS
The morning of your nuptials is the last time you want to have suppliers and caterers calling you with any issues they’re having. Give your phone to your maid of honour and have them deal with any last minute hiccups so you can stay super relaxed and stress-free to concentrate on your day. Give strict instructions to only bother you with issues that are higher than a 7 on the 1-10 disaster scale!
5. ALLOCATE PLENTY OF TIME FOR PHOTOS
You’ll be making the most wonderful memories that will last you a lifetime on your wedding day; photos are perfect mementos to look back on and remember the best day of your life. You only get one day to get all the photos you want so make sure you spare enough time in the hectic schedule to get all the specific shots you want. If possible, meet with your photographer in advance to agree on a list of must-have photos that you really want to get. If you’d also like to get some more relaxed, candid shots, leave disposable cameras on each table at the reception and challenge your guests to get specific photos such as a selfie of everyone at their table or a photo of you and the groom laughing. Many brides now even create their own Instagram hashtag so guests can easily share their own photos of the big event!
6. WASH YOUR HAIR THE DAY BEFORE
This may seem like a crazy idea, but washing your hair the day before the wedding rather than on the day will make things much easier for your hairdresser. Not only will it save precious time that can then be spent on make up or with your bridal party, it will actually help your wedding hairstyle hold in place much easier as it will be slightly oilier. Discuss this with your hairdresser before hand to figure out what is best for your hair type – it’s often better to do a practice run a couple of weeks before so the hairdresser knows exactly what you want and you get the perfect look!
7. RELAX AND ENJOY YOUR BIG DAY
The best advice we have for you is to relax and enjoy it all! Take a moment during your ceremony and reception to just take it all in and appreciate how amazing this wonderful day is for you and your new husband. It’s really just the start of the beautiful journey you both have ahead of you as husband and wife! You’ll also have the honeymoon and all those wedding presents to look forward to now!
